Volunteers can help provide swimming instruction at the municipal swimming pool. There are various swimming classes for both adults and children with special needs.
Many Sri Lankans, especially women, cannot swim which means that parents are often afraid to take their children swimming; particularly those with special needs. Volunteers are needed twice a week to coach swimming and simply just help children to enjoy the water.
There are also classes for women only as this is a particularly vulnerable group.
It was felt that had more Sri Lankans been able to swim, less would have died in the Tsunami
